East Village

Until the 1950's, the East Village was the northern section of the Lower East Side. As beatniks migrated into the neighborhood, the area transitioned into the bohemian village it's currently known as.

A birthplace for punk rock counterculture, the East Village endures as an 'alternative' neighborhood filled to the brim with cutting edge fashion boutiques, restaurants, cafes, lounges, and more. Hosting small clusters of Indian, Japanese, Latino and other ethnic communities, as well as the sub-neighborhood of Alphabet City, the vibrant East Village is currently one of the trendiest hotspots in NYC. Highlights: St. Marks Place, Tompkins Park
