Inwood

Located at the northern tip of the island, Inwood is mostly residential and has more of a suburban sensibility than other Manhattan neighborhoods. Like most of Manhattan, Inwood was originally farmland that became incorporated into NYC after the development of the subway system. The residents were originally Irish immigrants and now the neighborhood to a large community from the Dominican Republic.

Today, the community is becoming more diverse as lower-Manhattanites have begun to migrate out of expensive neighborhoods into Washington Heights, Inwood, and the outer boroughs. Recently, rents and real estate values have risen in Inwood due to the newfound popularity of this quiet and remarkably convenient Manhattan neighborhood.
